Got TOO MUCH Milk?
I walked out to the barn the other day to be met by THIS face! Isn’t it hilarious? Looks to me like she has gotten into a whole bottle of marshmallow sauce. Actually she had tried to finish off the salt lick. The tell tale was all over the block of salt! Right after I snapped this photo she got herself a big swig of water. Timing is everything!
On another note.... Did you know that marshmallow comes from a plant? Probably not the fake puffs we buy at the grocery store. The sweet gooey substance is stored in the root bulb of the Althea plant (or is it a weed?). Supposed to be medicinal. Feeling sick? Eat a marshmallow! Wouldn’t that be easy? Here is a picture of this plant.
Marsh mallow is native to Europe; it was brought to America as a medicinal plant. The grayish, velvety leaves are a good way to distinguish this from other mallows. Found in the northeast.
Quite pretty, huh?
